Blog 1: What is the Plants of the James River Project?
Hi All! I am Judy Thomas, Chair of the Plants of the James River Project. We are a relatively new partner of the Enrichmond Foundation and I wanted to tell you a little bit about us in a series of short blog posts. We are a group of botanical artists who want to enrich Richmond (see what I did there?) and support environmental organizations with botanical art. Botanical art is a scientific discipline, and combines aesthetics, accuracy, and precision. We typically draw or paint a plant, shown in one of a few ways: by itself, in its natural environment, or with related plants. We are focusing on native plants found along the James River. And, we are celebrating the work of Newton Ancarrow. Who is he? Read our next post!
