Friends of Battery Park
The Friends of Battery Park was established to preserve the rich history and life of our beloved Northside park. We live in the surrounding neighborhoods, as well as throughout the city and metro-region. Our vision is for Battery Park to serve as a community living room, to beautify, grow and enrich the entire community.
The Friends of Battery Park collaborates with the City of Richmond to improve and maintain park amenities; protect the natural elements; preserve the character and history; and encourage community involvement to provide and support opportunities for all citizens to enjoy recreation in Battery Park. We have coordinated work days in the park and worked with Tree Stewards, Friends of David Tate, various sororities and fraternities, the Battery Park Civic Association, and city staff to plant trees in the park and support positive community activities in the park. We sponsored the basketball team to participate in Shaka Smart’s VCU camp one summer. We support National Night Out and other community gatherings in the park. For the past several years we have hosted a MLK Service Day in our park with educational/inspirational content, lunch and sharing as well as a service project in the park such as planting trees or bulbs, or picking up trash and cleaning grafitti. We welcome neighbors and community partners to join us in living the dream and building the beloved community.
