Park Beautification program begins

Last month we announced our new parks and public spaces beautification partnership with Richmond Department of Parks and Recreation. Enrichmond will assist in preparations for the Richmond 2015 UCI Road World Championships and several other exciting projects. One key component of this effort will be parks.
Through our Friends groups and partnerships, we will be beautifying key areas of four regional parks: Bryan Park, Byrd Park, Chimborazo Park, and Forest Hill Park. Focusing on native plant species of ground-cover and grasses including Fall perennials we hope to put our best foot forward come race time.
Our first project was the entrance to Bryan Park. Working with the Reedy Creek Coalition and Friends of Bryan Park, we selected 8 species of natives plants (193 total plants) from Sandy’s Plants to improve the area. A great group of Master Gardner’s working through our amazing HandsOn volunteer coordinator Sarah Van Dam assisted Enrichmond’s own City Gardner- Vicki Campbell, to install the beautiful new entrance. Great job everyone!
The next park selected by the City for some TLC will be Forest Hill. See you out in the parks soon.
