Evergreen Volunteer Input Survey – Closed
Published on July 5th, 2017 by Jess Maffey
Enrichmond has undertaken the significant and humbling responsibility of owning the preservation and protection of Evergreen Cemetery. As the final resting place of thousands of Richmond’s African-American citizens, these grounds are one of our region’s most significant historical sites. A select group of inspiring individuals acted as the cornerstone of American history, while thousands of interred helped build the fabric of our communities.
To help develop a preservation guide for the cemetery, we have turned to the Chicora Foundation – one of the most prominent African-American cemetery preservation organizations in the United States. We will host a comprehensive community engagement process with Chicora in the Fall (2017). The process to develop a long-term management plan for Evergreen will take time and community input, but in the near term we’d like to take immediate steps to improve the safety, security, and accessibility of the property for volunteers and visitors. Your participation in this survey will help us to prioritize these efforts. We will continue to seek your input as the process continues.
Be on the lookout in the coming months for a family and community survey.
