The Enrichmond Foundation has been named the AmeriCorps NCCC Southern Region Sponsor of the Year for Class XXIV. This award is given to a NCCC Sponsoring Organization for going above and beyond to engage AmeriCorps NCCC members in enriching service opportunities and learning experiences. Enrichmond hosted a total of three service teams at Historic Evergreen Cemetery and was chosen from a pool of 69 sponsors and municipalities that included the National Park Service, United States Forest Service, Charlotte, NC, and Atlanta, GA.

We are so proud to have worked beside the amazing young women and men of AmeriCorps NCCC. Here are a few words from the team members who served with us at Evergreen Cemetery:

“Enrichmond has gone above and beyond for each team they received this Corps year. They were understanding in our needs, yet still took the time to make sure the teams understood the significance of their project. The…project allowed for teams to truly witness their impact on the community every single day, the lessons they learned and impact they had will not be easily forgotten.”

“Everything was so well done with this sponsor, from support, to presence, to housing, to encouragement. The team was motivated the entire time to work on this project because we were educated on how meaningful it was to the community and who would be benefitting from our work.”

“They care. And more than anything else they want us to care too.”

The teams’ experiences would not have been possible without Evergreen’s amazing community partners and volunteers. Thank you to HI Richmond Hostel for housing all three groups, Maggie L Walker National Historic Site (NPS), The Valentine, Richmond’s AmeriCorps alumni network, the Virginia Office on Volunteerism and Community Service, and all of the volunteers who continue to reclaim the cemetery.

Thank you, Delta 2, Delta 3, and Delta 4 for your tireless service at Historic Evergreen Cemetery!

Enrichmond’s Executive Director, John Sydnor, with members of all three teams at the award ceremony in Vicksburg, MS
