Scuffletown Park is a-buzz with all things Spring thanks to a great turn-out of neighbors, friends and volunteers who helped make their spring clean up on April 21st a huge success. They also want to thank their former park President, Laura Blaylock, for her seven years of selfless service maintaining this beautiful spot for our community to enjoy.

Humphrey Calder Community Garden just completed their compost area rebuild as a part of their garden beautification project for Earth Day. Thanks to everyone who helped make this happen!

 

Richmond Area Skateboard Alliance’s annual fundraiser, Thrash for Cash, is in the works for August. Stay tuned for more details about T4C III!
Additionally, Texas Beach skate spot has been undergoing consistent construction, and RASA is aiming to have the third large feature completed by mid-summer. They would like to thank all local and out-of-town skaters who have volunteered to make the latest concrete pours successful. RASA will also be assisting with RVA Sk8 Club in Fall of 2018, which will be running a couple days a week at various elementary schools through Richmond Parks and Recreation.

Join Friends of Shockoe Hill Cemetery for their monthly meeting at O’Toole’s Restaurant & Pub on May 9 from 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. to learn more about their organization! RSVP here.

 

Interested in citizen diplomacy? Wanting to bring the world to Richmond and Richmond to the world? Have you ever wanted to meet members of the royal family, ambassadors, governors of foreign lands, and presidents? Well then come volunteer with Friends of Richmond Sister Cities. Their organization will have an event taking place in August and will need volunteers to help with the event, more details to come. The Historic Falls of the James Scenic River Advisory Committee meets monthly to discuss issues involving the James River from the western Richmond boundary to Orleans Street. Established in 1972, this state-appointed committee is comprised of members who are considered experienced in all matters pertaining to the James River from biology, to kayaking and fishing, to planning policy and law. At the moment, the committee is following the Downriver development, city budget funding for the Missing Link connection, possible Scenic River designation extensions, transfer of Vauxhall Island to the city and improvement of tributary water quality into the James. The committee also monitors by monthly reports: James River Park, James River Outdoor Coalition, JRAC, Friends of the James River Park and Capital Regional Land Conservancy as well as Richmond Public Utilities.

 

Redskins Park has a Community Park located at the Redskins Training Center. It is open daily with convenient parking on Leigh Street, and includes a Play 60 Agility course donated by the Washington Redskins! For kids and adults of all ages.
