Lickinghole Creek’s Shockoe Stout Celebrates 17th Street Market

Published on September 11th, 2018 by Jess Maffey

Virginia’s award-winning farm brewery and Virginia’s oldest continually operating farmers market have collaborated to celebrate the 17th Street Market’s history of community and commerce.

The Shockoe Stout is a sessionable stout brewed with Virginia fresh hops and red cedar, perfect for easy drinking at fall festivals and on chilly evenings. Part of the proceeds from the beer will go toward the Enrichmond Foundation and its management of 17th Street Market, including a renewed weekly farmers market.

The market’s location has served generations of Virginians – from the Powhatan Cheifdom, to colonists, to today’s capital city residents – as a gathering place and vital commercial hub.  The Shockoe Stout helps support a farmers market at the historic site, bringing together Virginia farmers and Richmond neighbors as it has for over 275 years.

Shockoe Stout will debut on October 27th as the featured beer of Enrichmond’s Brunswick Stew and Stout festival. Enrichmond staff and Lickinghole Creek will join together for a Brew Day on September 12th to watch how the brew gets made!

Our collaboration with Lickinghole Creek Craft Brewery is a recognition of the market’s origin and role in the Shockoe Bottom community and a toast to its bright future!
