Celebrating Volunteers for National Volunteer Month

April is National Volunteer Month! So far in 2019, we’ve worked with over 600 volunteers, mostly at Historic Evergreen Cemetery. While we celebrate volunteers all year long, this month we are thanking a few special volunteers who we nominated for the the Community Foundation’s Power of Good celebration.

Timothy Henly

A special thank you to Mr. Timothy Henly. Timothy has been a regular volunteer at the cemetery since October and, as of this month, he has volunteered over 50 hours of his time to this sacred space. This project and others like it cannot happen without dedicated volunteers like him.

Alexander “Al” Smith

Long-time volunteer Alexander “Al” Smith is a member of the ExPRT team and volunteers his skills (and tractor) at Evergreen. He regularly moves mountains of debris with his tractor after volunteer clean ups. He is a powerhouse of doing good! Thank you Al!

Kelly Pratt

Kelly cares deeply about Evergreen, the families who visit, and fellow volunteers, and it shows in all she does. Logging dozens of hours over the past year, Kelly has worked tirelessly to create a database to help Evergreen families locate the resting places of loved ones. Kelly’s enthusiasm, can-do spirit, and humor are infectious. It is a joy to work alongside her, whether clearing thorn bushes, scanning images at the Library of Virginia, or brainstorming ideas at our office!

Thank you to these volunteers and ALL volunteers who dedicate so much time and so many resources to this years-long project. Volunteers are an essential part of the reclamation and restoration of Historic Evergreen Cemetery’s sacred grounds.
