Earth Day of Service Activates 215 Volunteers
Published on April 29th, 2019 by Enrichmond Foundation
On Saturday, April 27, 215 community members came together to clean up and beautify their neighborhoods during Enrichmond’s Earth Day of Service event. Volunteers met at six different public spaces, working from 9am-12pm on projects like invasive plant removal, trash pick up, tree plantings, and general beautification. Chimborazo Park saw the most volunteers, with 50 neighbors who came out to do everything from removing invasive tree-of-heaven to uncovering a historic cobblestone pedestrian path! At Pine Camp Cultural Arts Center, volunteers cleaned out and planted beds with native perennials, helped out with construction of a new hiking trail, and planted 155 pine tree seedlings.
Enrichmond coordinated with site leaders at each location to mobilize volunteers. Site leaders included Enrichmond Partner groups at Shockoe Hill Cemetery, Larus Park, Westwood Playground, Chimborazo Park, and Pine Camp Cultural Arts Center.
215 volunteers worked for a total of 645 hours, meaning that these spaces saved approximately $17,254 in maintenance!
